Macular Degeneration
Does Medicare Pay for the Treatment of Macular Degeneration?
Medicare currently covers only one treatment for some patients with macular degeneration. This treatment is called ocular photodynamic therapy with verteporfin. Consult with your eye doctor to see if this is the best treatment for you.
How Much Do You Pay?
You pay for 20% of the Medicare approved amount under Medicare Part B.
You must pay a $135 deductible for any Medicare Part B services and supplies before Medicare begins to pay its share. If a doctor, health care provider or supplier does not accept assignment; the amount you pay may be higher.
Independent eye care professionals are highly skilled in diagnosing and treating eye conditions in older Americans. They do more than simply determine if your prescription has changed; they invest the time to ensure you receive the proper care.
