Diabetes Screening (Fasting Plasma Glucose Test)
Does Medicare Cover a Screening Test For Diabetes?
Medicare Part B does cover tests to check for diabetes. These tests are covered only if you have one or more of the following risk factors:
- Dyslipidemia (History of abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels)
- Obesity
- High blood pressure
- History of high blood sugar
Or if you have two or more of the following risk factors:
- You are age 65 or older
- You are overweight
- You have a family history of diabetes
- You have a history of gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)
- You have delivered a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
Based on the results of these tests, you may be eligible for up to two diabetes screenings every year.
How Much Will I Pay?
If the doctor or health care provider accepts assignment, you pay nothing - $0. The Medicare Part B deductible and coinsurance do not apply.
