Why It Is Done

A gastrin test may be done to:

• Check for certain diseases, such as tumors of the pancreas or small intestine (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome) or abnormal growth of cells that line the stomach (G-cell hyperplasia).
• Help identify pernicious anemia.
