Other conditions with symptoms similar to hemochromatosis

An excess amount of iron in the blood that is caused by certain medical conditions can produce symptoms similar to those of hemochromatosis. These medical conditions include:¹

• Thalassemia.
• Some types of anemia.
• Transfusion-caused iron overload.
• Chronic iron oversupplementation.
• Hepatitis.
• Alcoholic liver disease.
• Porphyria cutanea tarda, a metabolic disorder often associated with liver disease.
