This new organization, which joins two former groups (the National
Adoption Information Clearinghouse and the National Clearinghouse on Child
Abuse and Neglect Information), is a service of the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services. Located within the Children's Bureau in the Administration
for Children and Families, the Child Welfare Information Gateway promotes the
welfare of children and families by bringing together timely and essential
information for citizens as well as for professionals involved with child
welfare, adoption, and related concerns. The Web site offers comprehensive
information about adoption by United States citizens, including infant and
international adoption and the adoption of children with special needs.
