Sundowning caused by Alzheimer's diseaseSome symptoms of
Alzheimer's disease, including agitation and
wandering, may become worse in the early evening. This is called
sundowning. To minimize the effects of sundowning:
- Turn on lights as evening
approaches.
- Schedule difficult activities, such as bathing, earlier
in the day.
- Reduce the number of activities and distractions for
the person.
- Give the person a single task to focus on.
